Zoetrope: All-Story Awards First Prize to “A Soft Projection for Q4”

David’s short story “A Soft Projection for Q4” has been awarded First Prize in the Zoetrope: All-Story Short Fiction Contest for 2015.

Here’s what guest judge Adam Johnson had to say:

“A Soft Projection for Q4” is a freshly observed and deeply felt take on what is too easily satirized: the soul-brittling world of corporate cubicles. The writing here is restrained, and the tone emanates sustained suspension. For all its quietude, there is urgency and necessity to this portrait of a man who cannot conceive of his identity beyond a beige cubicle, even as he’s all too aware of the recycled air and winnowed light of the fate he’s come to accept.

“A Soft Projection for Q4” will be published as a special online supplement to the Winter 2015/2016 issue of Zoetrope: All-Story.
